At Classic Lines Fitness we believe that everyone can succeed

help them uncover their full potential.
The following is written by
Maureen Fowler, our friend and club member.
Winner of the "Extreme Pound Down" 5 - Surviving the Summer.
I’m a
traveler. It’s in my blood and fueled by my parents and husband
with a little help from the US Navy. Recently I reached the
half-way point in what is the biggest journey I have ever taken
– a journey to reclaim my life and become the person I want to
be.
I have
been overweight all my life, but in January, 2008, I realized I
finally reached the point where I was tired of my weight keeping
me from doing the things I enjoy. So I made up my mind to do
something about it. I joined a weight loss program and started
working out with the fitness equipment I had gathered over the
years in my previous feeble attempts at losing weight and I laid
out my plan for success:
·
I set
goals – short and long term: I wanted to lose 50 pounds before
my 50th birthday (I lost 75); I want to go see my
sister in Switzerland and go skiing while I’m there; more than
anything, I want to be healthy again and this means losing over
180 pounds.
·
I
surrounded my self with “cheerleaders” – people who support me
and my efforts and are genuinely interested in seeing me
succeed. This is a great motivator because they are always
there to encourage and inquire about my progress. My husband,
Dan, is my head cheerleader and has been my rock through it all.
Two months
into this journey I realized that I needed outside help. I
wasn’t getting the level of activity that I needed to really be
effective and I was bored with the home work-out program I had
improvised. So I started calling local gyms to see what they
offered. I finally found a gym where my age and size didn’t
seem to be important; in fact, the people at Classic Lines
Fitness for Ladies have proven to be some of my greatest
cheerleaders! Angie, one of the trainers, has pushed me to my
limits and patted me on the back – all at the same time! After
all these years of avoiding anything that made me sweat, I’ve
discovered that I actually enjoy my workouts and challenging
myself to go further, try harder.
I even
joined the “Extreme Pound Down,” a competition run by Classic
Lines that required me to publicly acknowledge my weight and
progress. It was one of the best things I could have done! In
the end, my rivals joined my growing band of cheerleaders and
they continue to encourage me as I head down the back side of
this journey.
Like most long and difficult journeys, this one
has had its bumps in the road. I have days where I’m tired of
the diet and crave ice cream, Chinese food, or chocolate; days
where I just don’t feel like going to the gym. But I try to
look back at where I’ve been and definitely where I’m headed,
and suddenly, the journey doesn’t seem so bad after all.
